Decriminalise Sex Work in Queensland

Decriminalise Sex Work in Queensland

The Queensland Government committed to table a bill to decriminalise sex work before the end of 2023. This has not happened.

Send an email to key government ministers and urge them to keep their commitment.

The licensing framework in Queensland has failed. After 24 years there are only 18 licensed brothels. The laws criminalise all other sex industry business models and needlessly criminalise basic sex worker safety strategies. Queensland police regulate 90% of the sex industry. Sex workers are at risk of criminal charges for undertaking everyday tasks related to their jobs. Sex workers in Queensland have to choose between working legally or working safely.

The Queensland Law Reform Commission made recommendations for a decriminalised sex industry, and the Queensland Government subsequently committed to introduce a bill to Parliament before the end of 2023.
